‘Lady Mary’ is a headturning
beauty, from the board of a designer whose boats are renowned for their sleek
looks, good performance and pleasing handling characteristics. She is a lovely
example of all these attributes.
She is very well-known, and much admired, amongst the east coast classic boat community.
She was built by the
acclaimed Whisstocks of Woodbridge.

She has now been in our

maintained, and updated eg she now has self-tailing winches and a modern
engine.
Sadly, we must recognise that the time has now come for us to pass on
the custodianship of this very special yacht to an enthusiastic new owner.
‘Lady Mary’ is of carvel construction, with a slim and graceful canoe
stern. She features a safe, comfortable, self-draining, cockpit and uncluttered
decks.
Her accommodation offers up
to three berths and includes a Baby Blake toilet, Force 10 gas cooker,
stainless steel sink, and Faversham cast iron solid fuel stove. Thanks
to her generous beam, she is well suited to a couple looking to do longer
passages.
She is powered by a Yanmar
3YM20 three-cylinder engine (fitted new in 2016). It is in excellent
condition, and was last serviced (professionally) in November 2022.

Construction:
‘Lady Mary’ is a sistership to ‘Edith Rose’: they were designed by
Harrison Butler to be an improved version of his own yacht, ‘Vindilis’.
‘Lady Mary’ is of Carvel construction, with pitch pine planking, copper
fastened to steam-bent oak frames. The decks are straight-laid teak planking on
plywood sub-decks. Varnished mahogany coachroof coamings and grabrails with
sheathed top. Long keel with a combination of cast iron ballast keel and
additional lead ballast weights. Tiller steering to keel hung rudder.
Self-draining aft cockpit.
Additional Comments:
We carried out a comprehensive keel-up restoration, over a ten-year
period, which was completed in 1992. We have a detailed folder covering her
restoration and history, which is included in the sale. Her provenance is well
established, with a number of surveys on file. The last, carried out in 2018,
states that she was ‘built to a remarkably high standard and has been generally
well maintained and has been extensively refitted and updated over the years’.
We are keen to find ‘Lady Mary of Woodbridge’ an appreciative new
keeper.
