Little Tern is a Storm 15 Swallow Boat. She is a modern interpretation of the famously seaworthy Scottish and Scandinavian fishing boats. Like many of the Swallow Boats she is distinctive because of a lack of transom, her sharp stern putting the water back as she found it! Combine this with her modest 120kg hull weight and Little Tern is a boat that is a joy to sail as well as row and to potter around in harbours and estuaries using our outboard electric engine.Unlike other Storm 15 Boats, Little Tern has been adapted to take a ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 evo remote engine (SPIRIT Series – ePropulsion UK) in the well against the aft bulkhead, which can be charged through a mains plug and also features a hydrogeneration function to recharge the battery whilst sailing; a first in the outboard motor industry. The engine and Long Transom (50cm) shaft are included in the sale. The engine is fuelled by a lightweight 8.7kg lithium-ion battery with 1276Wh capacity. Designed for resilience in harsh conditions, this buoyant battery floats, eliminating worries of losing it at sea or on fresh water. The engine was supplied, the Evo Top Mount control and remote fitted and well adaptions made by Neil Thompson Boats | Builders of the Norfolk Range in 2021. A full inspection of the integrity of the hull, its fixtures and rigging was also completed including a repaint and revarnish of Little Tern by Neil Thompson Boats. Little Terns cockpit has room for 6 people at a pinch, but 4 would be more usual. She has a central rowing seat and a simple dagger board. Two rowing oars are included in the price. There is plenty of room for a picnic basket and dedicated lockers port and starboard under the foredeck provide further storage. The unstayed mast makes Little Tern very quick to rig and the small self tacking jib adds performance in lighter airs. The Gunter rigged (Gunter rig – Wikipedia) mainsail has a simple raised sprit boom to avoid heads, though a traditional boom could be fitted. The rudder is hinged on a long pin using solid bronze fittings. it can be raised and lowered using an uphaul line for sailing in shallow water, obviating the need for a hinged rudder blade. Under sail, Little Tern points high and sails fast, particularly in light winds. Little Tern also been used without her mast and sails, simply through the use of the ePropulsion engine. Regrettably since 2022 she has seldom been sailed or used as a rowing boat/dinghy due to relocation from the coast to the Midlands. Little Tern has been stored since 2021 in a water tight garage and comes with the light weight trailer and light board as shown. The use of the trailed is the easiest way to launch and recover Little Tern, and her blue waterproof cover is made to measure. She is much loved and has been maintained regularly to keep her in top condition!Little Tern can be collected on successful sale
