The
Macwester 22 is an excellent sea boat, being extremely sturdy in construction
and very forgiving to sail. They have crossed oceans and even completed
circumnavigations so are the ideal family boat, being very steady and very
safe.

Built with a
good size cockpit and high saloon deckhead to provide standing clearance, the
Macwester provides excellent living space for a 22′ boat. She sleeps 4, with a
V-berth in the forepeak and the saloon table folding down to produce a double
bed, with a separate heads compartment and galley on the starboard side. There
is a water tank under the table providing hand pumped fresh water to the galley
sink, and plenty of storage under all the bunks and in the galley cupboards.

I bought
this about 6 years ago as an in use boat and used her for a season but then
took her out of the water for a winter refit and she has never gone back.

The hull is
good, although there is some star cracking that you might want to fill and she
probably needs the hull and topsides painting. She has suffered a little from
rust staining from the mast support, so although I am sure she will clean up
considerably more than she currently is (this is the result of just an hour
with a jet wash, hence the water runs), you may want to re-paint to get her looking her best.

She has a
good main and roller reefing headsail, with decent but not new rigging.  The sails were packed away carefully so are
good to use.

Internally
the boat is basic but very functional. A re-wire is needed, although the
original systems were extremely basic anyway so not much is lost.  She has 12v lighting throughout, and normal
navigation and mast lights, but little in the way of navigation equipment as
was only used in local waters.

She has no
engine. She did have a single cylinder Yanmar 1GM10 but it seized while she was
standing.  I had a bit of a work rush a
couple of years ago and removed the engine to repair it, but it was not really salvageable so I sold it for parts to put towards a replacement, which I never
got.  In reality any small diesel engine
would fit, as there is plenty of space in the engine compartment. Shaft and
prop are still fitted.  If you prefer,
she also has an outboard bracket, which does need a new piece of plywood but
otherwise is good, so you could just seal the shaft and use an outboard if you
had one anyway.  You would probably need a 10hp or so engine for the size of the boat.

I do have the auxiliary outboard I used to have on it that I will be listing separately once I have serviced it. It is only 5 hp, and was really just enough for it in sheltered water but also small enough that would fit on the dinghy.  That will also be for sale separately once I have repaired it, along with a smaller 2hp outboard which is a lot lighter to handle.

The boat is
currently located near Wallingford in Oxfordshire, so please consider that when bidding.  Due to where it is stored viewing is difficult and although I can arrange access I need some notice. I will be moving her to Ilchester in Somerset later in the summer where access will be slightly easier.

THE TRAILER
IS NOT INCLUDED, so there are a few options for collection:

           I can deliver her, at £1 a mile(charged both
ways based on Google Maps) if you have the means to lift her off the trailer at the destination. I can tow anywhere within reason but subject to timings restrictions as
I work and it is not a speedy thing to tow.
For general guidance I am probably looking for south coast and I would prefer to tow late evening and so drop off
early morning having stopped in a convenient layby.

I can tow her at £1 a mile one
way to a suitable location nearby with cranes etc to swap onto your own
trailer. I don’t know of a place personally, but there are many boatyards
relatively nearby that support Thames boating companies so you may be able to
find one. There is also a mobile crane hire service who may be able to do a
lift in their own yard. I will do my best to be available during their working
hours but will need some notice to make sure I can take time off. You will have to organise that yourself and I will just be there at the agreed time.

If you have access to a truck with a
crane, I can  tow her to a nearby large
layby where you can swap it from the trailer and straight onto the truck.

You can make an offer on the
trailer. I know what a 4 wheel 3500 kg braked trailer that can take a 26 – 28
ft boat is worth, and what it will cost me to replace which I would need to do. Even though it is an older trailer and not galvanised it
is very sturdy, it has new tyres, serviced bearings and brakes so I know it is
worth over £1200. I will tow it to the same nearby layby so you can take
it.  You will need your own straps as I
will remove the ones on it (I believe a driver should always do their own
strapping) and you are accepting the condition of the trailer as being
roadworthy from when you take it.

Please
message me beforehand if you want to discuss any of these, or have some
specific requests for the delivery. I can’t deliver to Glasgow on the night of
the auction ending if you just message me after it finishes. I’m not towing it
to the South of France.  Wanting to
cancel afterwards because you have no way of collecting just wastes time and
messes serious buyers around.

This is cash on collection please. Even if I am delivering it for you I would prefer you to come and inspect it first to be sure you are content. If you don’t wish to visit first and wish me to deliver then I will need a bank transfer of at least the fuel cost before I set off, with cash on delivery for the actual boat if you prefer.

Please don’t
bid if you have less than 10 feedback and haven’t messaged me first.  I will cancel your bid as I don’t want the
hassle of people who bid on things they have no intention of buying then don’t
contact you afterwards.

This can be
a really nice little family cruiser with only a relatively small amount of work. Macwesters are sturdy and ideal for new owners with the
excellent sea keeping qualities making her a very safe family yacht.

Please ask
any questions before the auction ends not after you have won.
