Very rare Bruce Roberts design Spray 28 gaff cutter built 1999 and with complete build history including a dvd. . This is a design based upon the famous ‘Spray’ sailed by Joshua Slocum, the first single handed person to sail and circumnavigate the world in 1898. The photo shows her under sail with one headsail but she does have two thus making her a Cutter. The second jib is red like the mainsail. There is also a topsail which is shown and a storm sail (not shown). Many sailors dream of owning an old gaffer but shy away due to the work involved with owning a wooden boat. My boat however has the great advantage of having a grp hull. She is 28ft.10 inches long plus bowsprit. A wide beam of 10ft.6inches means a very stable craft with lots of room internally. There are two cabins and 3berths that could be increased to four. Could be a go any where live a board. A lovely galley area with gimbled as new cooker, double sink unit, lots of cupboards. Seperate heads compartment with sink, sea flush pump toilet. Pumped water. There is a cosy solid fuel burning stove for those chilly days or evenings. Brass lamps make for a cosy glow in a very cosy cabin. Strip lights in the galley area. Chart table in the first cabin with one berth to starboard. There is a large storage area aft which could be converted to a fourth berth. The fwd cabin has a folding large table with stove. There is a single berth on each side. Lots of stowage with access to a large foc’sle. Hatches in both cabins. The auxiliary power comes from a 40 hp 4 cylinder professionally marinised Ford diesel on shaft drive. Uprated charging system. Two heavy duty batteries. Steps up to the cockpit area which is self draining. Instruments include vhf, log, navigation. Rigged as a gaff sloop, there are two jibs, mainsail and top sail. Most control lines run aft to the cockpit for single handed sailing. All in superb order. The mast and boom are aluminium to ease maintainance. With the wide beam there is a large deck area . Two anchors with chain. Pulpit, pushpit, guard lines. Winches and jamming cleats. Adjustable running back stays. Main sail cover. No.1 jib furling gear. Nav lights. Fenders. Water tank. A superb go any where character vessel which any one would be proud to own. Just completed painting and varnishing. Engine serviced. All in superb order and ready to sail any where. Also registered with the Old Gaffers Association and can race in their organised Gaffer races. Registered at 7 tons. Moored Essex. Only two owners since built in 1999. Has sailed extensively. I will consider power or sail boats, cars or what have you in part exchange. Private sale. The pontoon mooring could be available by negotiation with the marina owner. Fees are paid up to date. My phone number is 07770 792454. Refurbished 1966 Mirror dinghy (used as tender) also for sale with road trailer £425 (see last picture).
