GALLANT MAID
Hillyard 31 foot “Motor Sailor” yacht (9.46 meters)
This lovely Classic boat has
been laid up for a number of years and is now for sale, it would be a very easy
project for an enthusiastic new owner to complete.
This lovely old boat is remarkably
solid and clean with loads of new hardwood timber work completed and loads of
gear included in the sale.
Fitted is a
“Captain” 1.5 litre BMC diesel engine which appears to be
in serviceable condition although it has not been started for years and
would need attention, it does turn over freely.
Gallant Maid is
registered, has the “blue book” British registry and has a lot
of paper work, manuals and history to support it.
Minor repairs are
required both internally and externally and a fair bit of “putting
back together will be needed”. This boat has been out of the water for
a number of years, stored outside and the bilges allowed to remain
damp, it had been re-caulked and had timber treatment from bare wood
up to preserve it when first lifted ashore.
It has laid in our
yard whilst the owner has worked on it in spare time, there was little wrong with the boat when maintenance work was started and it didn’t really need anything doing, but the owner
loved just working on it! The work done was done with care and to a reasonable standard over many years.
In our opinion this would be an easy first classic yacht
project for the right person to undertake, learn new skills and put
this tough wooden classic back into use as a cruising yacht or live
aboard home.
Over the last two or
three years the current owners situation has meant it would not be possible to continue, so this boat is now offered for sale by
us on the owners behalf.
There is to much
included to list comprehensively but in short; windows, sails,
rigging, spruce masts (I don’t think the masts are perfect now as
they have laid on the ground for so long), deck gear, hot water system, internal doors,
furniture, hatches, bits and bobs, electronics etc.
DINGHY: The sale includes a
pretty classic mahogany dinghy about 14 foot long that needs a split
board repaired to cure a small leak. It is in good repairable condition. We would prefer not to sell this
dinghy separately, many people have asked to buy it but the owner
wants it sold with the boat as part of the same lot.
The boat and all the
gear including the dinghy can be viewed by appointment in a boatyard
in Rye, East Sussex. The yard operators can offer crane services for
loading to road transport, or for local people it may be possible to
keep the boat at the boat yard to complete it (no live aboard though).

sale are that we would prefer bidders to view the boat before they
bid but will accept bids based on our description but accept no responsibility for omissions, this boat and dinghy are not derelicts!
We will not accept bids from people with less than a 50 feed

The boat may
be viewed during day light hours any day for the duration of the
auction by appointment through ebay. Contact after auction within 24hrs and payment within 5 working days.
