Ranzo 4 Tonner named Vagabond designed by William Maxwell Blake and built by Robertsons Boat Yard of Woodbridge in 1936. She is similar to the later Maxwell Blake Deben 4 Tonner but with less draft!LOD 22’ Beam 7’2” Draft 2’9”She is a project boat due to being ashore for five years due to failed engine. Most of this is cosmetic but she will need re-commissioning and an engine! (Possibly – she wasn’t built with one!)Yachting Monthly Magazine wrote an article at the time referring to her over size framing/planking to cope with accidental groundings on the harsh Deben Estuary Bar! She is a very solid craft with no broken frames or planks!!!Accommodation comprises of 2 berths in one cabin, twin settee berths, one of which converts to a small double. Camping stove to port on galley box, Brass oil lamp in main cabin, Sea toilet in the forepeak.Believed to be constructed of pitch pine planking on grown oak frames with steamed intermediate timbers all copper rivet fastened. Oak keel, deadwoods, stem and stern-posts. Galvanised iron strap floors.Tongue and groove pine deck and coach roof covered in Marine plywood before sheathing in epoxy with varnished toe rails and rubbing strakes. Varnished teak coamings/cabin sides with bronze port holes. Iron external ballast keel with iron keel bolts. 5 replaced in 2010 with the other 3 replaced several years before. Lead internal trimming ballast.Non self-draining cockpit with varnished teak seats. Iroko rudder and tiller replaced 1995.Gaff sloop rig with keel-stepped solid wood varnished mast, bowsprit, boom and gaff. Plastimo furling system on the headsail.Mainsail and Jib new in 2014 and made by Steve Hall, North Sea Sails, Tollesbury, Essex. Slab reefing on the boom. Sails have only two light seasons use! Stainless steel standing rigging with lanyards. Polyester running rigging. External bronze chain plates and bronze high-field levers for running backstays.The Trailer I acquired 3 years ago as I was racking up storage fees in the local yard! This has no brakes so is a yard trailer only. It had new tyres just prior to my purchase. It would be suitable to be pulled up onto a flatbed trailer or low loader!
