Back on the market at the end of the season – I am keen to sell so make me an offer.Privateer is reluctantly for sale after being in my ownership for 10 years due solely to time constraints. I would rather see her used than sit there on the mooring. If you are looking at this the you may already know about the formidable reputation of the Varne 27. This particular vessel is fantastic example and was built for her original owner for extended offshore cruising.Privateer was refitted when I purchased her and has been subject to a continued refurbishment and updating since, she is in very good order. Her cabin is well appointed and comfortable with a well-equipped navigation station. Privateer’s main cabin benefits from the extensive use of teak and wood trim. She has 4 berths: 1 x quarter berth, 1 x single (pilot) berth, and a double which all have recent cusions and covers. There is a tidy galley equiped with a 2 x hob oven and grill. The sink is supplied by both electic and manual pumps. The forepeak is dedicated to sail and wet gear storage and the heads compartment. The heads compartment has a recent Lavac sea toilet and a small sink. Privateer has alloy mast and boom fitted with lazy jacks. She was equiped by the original owner with twin spinnaker poles enablling twin head sails to be set for down wind sailing. I have fitted a Furlex roller reefing system which works very well. There are 2 x Lewmar sheet winches and 2 spinnaker winches in the cockpit along with 2 halyard winches and another at the mast. I mainly sail single-handed and there are plenty of deck blocks to lead sheets back to the cockpit. Privateer is ready to go just having had her Coppercoat refurbished and a spruce up. She is currently out of the water for viewing but her mooring in Pembrokeshire can be availible to the buyer until the spring. Engine: The original Yanmar YM12 underwent a full refurbishment and rebuild before I took ownership. It has proved to be a very reliable engine, not missing a beat since. Being an advocate of the KISS principle, I have never considered replacing it.Privateer has a dedicated nav station which is equiped with a full suite of navigarion equipment including:Lowrance Elite Chart PlotterYeoman Chart Plotter (paper charts)Furuno GPSJRC RadarNASA NavtexICOM DSC VHFNASA Depth, Log, Wind, and GPS repeater in cockpitSimrad Tiller PilotSafety Gear:Privateer is equiped with a stern mounted boarding ladder, lifering with light, throwing line.Delta anchor with 30 m chain rode.Message me for more information or to arrange a viewing and I can send you a selection of articles about the design.Sailing Today May 2008 Reviewed the Varne 27:”… sails a curvaceous classic, the Varne 27 which … handles like a dream””The Varne 27 is an old school classic in the mould of the Nicholsons, Contessas and Rustlers of her day. She is fast and formidable in a good blow while remaining impeccably mannered. Her motion at sea is supremely smooth, as you’d expect from a deep-veed hull with long overhangs, and she is built to withstand a storm at sea with little consequence””A Perfect Sense of Proportion””The little known Varne 27 is a treat for those who want a compact, well behaved and seakindly offshore cruiser””Downright Gorgeous””steady as a rock off the wind”
