‘Freebie’ is a very pretty, stable, bilge-keeled, 4 berth yacht built by Robert Ives in 1969.
The model is called the Robert Ives 421 and it is of heavy GRP construction with no evidence of osmosis.
The previous owner carried out a fair amount of renovation work never using her under sail, but she is now complete with mainsail, genoa and working jib.
I have replaced the running rigging, sheets, halyards etc
The original inboard, a 2 stroke single cylinder Stuart Turner P5 is still there, works ok but is noisy so I have preferred using a small outboard which attaches to an adjustable mount.
The electrics have been well engineered in the past, nav lights (untested), new bilge pump, VHF radio, depth finder (untested), new battery, interior lights, gas stove, sink, plenty of fenders, anchor with long chain.
We have never slept on her, but the previous owner and his partner slept in the bow area regularly.
She is a 50 year old boat and is not perfect, but very usable as is. She was painted a few years ago by the previous owner, anti-fouled at the same time.
I have owned her for about a year, and my partner and I have learned a lot about sailing, enough to know that we want to progress onto a larger boat with enough space on deck for our 3 children.
She is currently on a winter mooring in Angle, Pembs and can remain there until April if needs be. She was sailed in on a spring tide and will need to be sailed out under similar conditions.
There are plenty of spare moorings in Angle Bay and Dale if you wanted to stay local for the summer.
