ROMPEY is mahogany oak on sloop built by J J Bickford of Topsham, Devon in 1963.
For her first fifteen years, she was owned by a number Naval Officers based at Pompey (hence the name).
For the next 25 years was loved and extensively sailed by a husband and wife from Brighton. Due to his poor health it was put on the market and The previous owner purchased her in the spring of 2009.
He commissioned an extensive refurbishment largely by Terry Pachol in Brighton. The primary tasks were:
· Sistering of cracked frames
· Relaying/renewing the teak deck
· 50% renewal of cockpit mahogany
· New caprail
· Refastened as required
· Fitted roller furling for foresail
· Fitted stack-pack for main
· 100% refix of garboard strake (2010)
· Replaced all cast iron keel bolts (2010)
· Replaced Ducati air cooled diesel with a Yanmar 1GM (2011). Probably no more than 100 hours.
In the previous ownership the coachroof was renewed and the rig replaced.
The hull is carvel planked of mahogany on oak. A hardwood backbone is fitted below which is fixed a solid iron keel. The deadwood is cut away at the stern to make an aperture for the propeller. The hull form is round bilged with a raked stem and a transom stern
The framing is bent oak at 7” nominal centres

I purchased her in late October and have kept her safely berthed in Chichester marina since. However, my personal situation has altered and so I am hoping to find someone who will cherish a wonderful little yacht full of character and charm. Please note that from the point of sale, the cost of berthing will transfer to the owner. The cost of berthing at Chichester marina is currently £260 per month, so the new purchaser will need to be prepared to come to an arrangement between the current owner (me) and the marina, depending upon their intentions. The current owner is able to give two months notice to terminate the contract.I also have a lift booked for Easter weekend when I planned to take her out and redo the anti-fouling and paint work, so I am sure this booking could be kept for the new owner. I think the cost of this I will be £300, so you know what you are getting into.
