Project boat – 9m sailing boat. A bit about the boat:The Pioneer 9 is said to be the first series built GRP cruising yacht produced in Europe. Van de Stadt built the prototype out of wood and sailed this yacht himself, this then became the ‘plug’ for the first GRP version which was finished in the summer of 1959, just in time to compete in the Flevo race of that year. Van de Stadt sailed the race himself and won his class. The Pioneer 9 became a very successful offshore design and 650 have been built. The Pioneer 9 has a great reputation, in 1971, Nicollete Milnes-Walker was the first woman to sail non-stop single handed across the Atlantic in her Pioneer 9 “Aziz”.This yacht is ideal for someone looking for a strongly built heavy displacement cruising yacht with good handling and attractive classic lines. She sits very low in the water, giving an exhilarating ride.Sailboat SpecificationsHull: thick GRP (fiberglass)Sloop riggedLOA 29.85ft / 9.1mLWL 24.01ft / 7.32mBeam 7.87ft / 2.4mDraft 4.59ft / 1.4mDisplacement 9480lb / 4300kgModel first built: 1959This boat built: 1969Number built: 650Designer: Van de Stadt (Netherlands)Boat Builder: Southern Ocean Shipyards Ltd. (UK)We purchased the boat in 2018 with the intention of bringing this old lady back to her former glory. Unfortunately, due to illness we’ve been unable to do as much as we had planned. Now due to work commitments we are moving away, and find ourselves unable to access the coast as easily.Mast, boom and standing rigging replaced in 2016. Excellent condition from Z-spars. Roller furling.Running rigging ok, but could do with being washed. One sheet needs replacing.Stanchions and stainless steel could do with a polish as there is some light marking. One stanchion head missing. Life line in good repair.Hull condition generally good, no signs of osmosis. We scraped and sanded beneath the water line in late 2018, anti fouling 3 coats given in late 2018. Anodes replaced late 2018.All through hulls/seacocks replaced or serviced late 2018 and are working fine. New replacements are from a New Zealand company called Trudesign. All deck drain tubing replaced. Engine exhaust hose replaced.Whale manual bilge pump – serviced in 2019. Spares on board. Electric bilge pump on board but not fitted.Above the water line needs sanding and repainting.Topsides need sanding and repainting.External woodwork needs sanding and revarnishing/staining. We already sanded and varnished the tiller and you will be able to see that the woodwork comes up to a lovely finish. The boat needs a new 3 part door. It works, doesn’t leak, but cosmetically doesn’t look the best.Internally the boat needs much work. We ripped out the galley as much of it was rotten. There is a used sink to refit, a used Plastimo hob/grill (2 burner) in pretty good condition, not currently connected to gas.The internal woodwork needs attention. Either sanding back and revarnishing/painting or ripping out entirely. We removed the old metal water tank, as it was badly corroded and mouldy. The quarter berth above the old tank needs rebuilding.Internally all the old mouldy carpet has been removed, leaving walls needing a light sand before insulating and lining. The old sea toilet had already been removed by the previous owners, however we acquired a second-had one to refit should you wish. The v-berth has been fully stripped, ready for insulating and decorating. New escape hatch/window installed 2019.It appears as most of the wiring was recently replaced by the previous owner. This has not been checked by us or an electrician. Leisure batteries have not been seen or checked/charged.Equipment:A variety of sails, unsure of condition.A variety of instrumentation, not fitted, unsure of condition.Engine is a Yanmar 16hp – last serviced latter half of 2018, by marine engineers in Plymouth.2 x leisure batteries, condition unknown. We have not attempted to use the engine or electrics.1 x gas bottle. Plastimo hob/grill – used, unfitted as previously mentioned.Sea toilet as previously mentioned.Whale manual bilge pump – serviced in 2019. Spares on board. Electric bilge pump on board but not fitted.Couple of diesel cans.VIEWINGS by prior arrangement. Daytime only. We are looking for a quick sale, so are open to offers.
