This is our much loved sailing boat “Sea ma chilli” she is a cruiser racer Jeanneau Sun 2500. She is one of the prettiest looking boats with all her attributes to sailing, not accommodation or motoring there are other boats for that. Beautiful wide side decks and a large cockpit that wouldn’t be out of place on a 30 footer. She has a plumb bow and stern but if she had overhangs she would be in the region of 28ft. She has a good beam and carries it well aft resulting in a stiff fast hull. I’ve not yet met with any other vessel around her small size that can even give her a run for her money. I recon she is the fastest cruiser racer under 25ft. She is well balanced and will go to windward like a greyhound with nobody at the helm, tracking the wind perfectly as she goes. She is very forgiving and rounds when pressed. She hits seven plus nots readily, with a good reach being just shy of eight knots through the water, without planning. She never losers grip due to the twin rudder system. Winches (harken self tailing) are well placed for solo sailing, as are all control lines. She is in brilliant condition throughout, you could keep your sandwiches in the bilge it’s that clean. She has everything a well found yacht should have and in the condition it should be. We have spent well on her and she wants for nothing. Any work that has been carried out is professional or fitted by jeanneau.
Under motor she moves like a dodgem car, steering is easy and precise due to the engine moving with the tiller along with two rudders. She can be turned on a sixpence and placed easier than other vessels in a marina berth. They make inboard versions with twin rudders but because the prop wash falls between two rudders there is no steerage in mariners at low speeds making the outboard far superior. As for power the motor when down puts 9.9hp in clear water, way under the water due to the ultra long shaft. The motor is not on a bracket so no popping out of the water. Thrust is high due to large prop and gearing. Fuel is 1.25 Ltrs per hour at cruising speed 5-5.5 knots @ quarter throttle. When lifted it is clear of the water so NO drag at all or corrosion to worry about. The motor new last year and has just had its first 20 hour service, lots of guarantee there then. All the electrics are up to date and in perfect working order, including the bits on top of the mast. VHF, AIS, depth, log, speed, autohelm, chart plotter even a cockpit speaker. They are quality units and not cheap ones. She has three batteries to power electrics, they are charged by engine, solar panel or shore power hook up for the inverter. Though she is not an old boat and not in a worn condition, updating has been continued to keep her in top condition. There is nothing old or worn on this vessel, nothing to fix, bodge or repair. She is a boat that is cared for and well looked after and ready to go to sea. Her accommodation is designed for four but there was only ever two of us on her so I can’t say what four would be like. She is very comfortable down below. Open plan except for a fairly good sized heads which is enclosed, has hanging area for wets and sink and storage. Sea water or holding tank so best of both worlds. Galley consists of stainless sink, filtered cold water tap, gimballed gas cooker, cool box and lots and lots of storage space with fold up work surface. Heating is hot air blown with thermostat control so as not to get too hot. Sleeps four in two double beds. Both large in size. The aft double is near square and the forward V berth is several foot wide aft. This can be split into two singles for kids. There are two sets of cushions, both like new, there are two tables. Tables can be used below and topside. Entertainment is by factory fitted stereo system and there is a DVD,TV system as well that has its own stowage area out of the way. Chart table with lift up chart box. Interior wood is high quality marine ply and she has interior mouldings top and bottom keeping her insulated and nicely finished. Above deck she has had canvas work replaced in top condition, running rigging all replaced, sails are perfect and set beautifully. Main just serviced and third reef fitted. Easy reef on 1&2 reefs from cockpit. Anchor lives in its own locker at bow ready for work. All chain and warp good. The transom is a cut away, designed to shift water when planning under chute. Sorry I’ve never been brave enough to try this out though I’m sure it would work perfectly. It does help you get on and off a dinghy though. It does have the advantage of bringing the outboard into the cockpit so no leaning over to use it controls at hand just like an inboard. Below the water there is a shallow keel placing the ballast where you want it with a drop keel living in it. The drop keel gives better grip going to windward and helps steering within a marina but apart from that it lives pulled up. No lifting mechanism just pull the rope. Twin rudders working from a central tiller. When the water goes out she takes the ground upright and is very happy like this. All the benefits of a bilge Keeler but with a shallow fin, can’t be bad. I think I’ve covered most bits but if there is something you would like to know please ask. I must stress this is a beautiful well maintained vessel ready to go.
There will be lots I have left out like extras, yes the normal mundane fenders etc are there as is the not so normal bow sprit and cruising chute c/w sock like I said ready to go.
