Hi – this is a pre-listing for my fin keel Westerly Cirrus sailing boat. I’m not sure of the exact year, but they were apparently made between 1968 and 1972.This is a ‘pre-listing’ because I haven’t been up to the boat for a good while, so haven’t been able to take recent photos – I’m just trying to see what sort of interest there might be. The photos are from when she was first put on the lake late 2018 and also show work paid for by the previous owner, who spent a small fortune getting the hull polished – you’ll see how clean it was in the photos. She won’t be nearly as pretty as this now, but I’ll give her a good scrub down when I can get up to the lake. Boats rarely look as good in the flesh as they might do in photos, so please bear this in mind. General spec: https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/cirrus-22-westerly Video link: https://vimeo.com/390622599 (me chugging along on my first outing on Windermere in Autumn 2018 – I was very chuffed with her!)I’ve owned her for around 16 months and she’s up for sale as I’m just not getting enough use out of her – Windermere is a 3 hour drive away and work and other commitments are making regular trips too difficult. I think I’ve been up to the lake 4 or 5 times since owning her and it’s a crime not getting up there more frequently. The Westerly is on a swinging mooring on the lake – an approx. 10 minute dinghy trip from Ferry Nab. I’ve paid the fees up until the end of March. Moorings are managed by the Lake Wardens, so the new owner will have to put an application in – moorings aren’t automatically transferred with a boat, but it’s worth speaking to the Wardens to see if that would be possible. I bought Jean-Marie in Liverpool and had her transported to Windermere. Sadly, one of the inserts that connects the aluminium poles for the furling foresail snapped during transit and I never got around to sorting it – it will either need fixing or I think you could adapt the foresail (adding hanks??) and just hoist it up the forestay. As you might be able to tell, I’m no expert sailor and have never actually sailed the Westerly – I bought her to just enjoy being on the water, pootling up and down on the engine, getting away from the crowds and admiring the amazing scenery. The engine is a good old diesel Volvo Penta – a bit of a ‘thumper’ as you can hear in the video, but has always started fine and hasn’t missed a beat. There’s an inboard fuel tank which you access from the rear deck. There’s also an inboard water tank, but I haven’t needed to use this. There’s a gas hob/grill, which unfortunately came apart during transit and I haven’t worked out how to put it back together – no doubt someone with a bit of patience will get this sorted though. There’s a depth gauge, speedo, marine radio, an electric bilge pump, various fenders and ropes.. a boat hook, kettle, glasses, cutlery etc. Below deck, there is a decent amount of headroom in the main area – I’m 5′ 9″ and can stand up straight, which is quite rare for a boat of this size. There are 5 berths (on paper) but 3/4 realistically, unless you’re all fairly petite/happy to squeeze up together. The table drops down to form a small double, there’s another double/twin in the fore cabin and a single berth to one side at the stern. The bench seats in the cockpit could do with re-fixing as the hinges have come loose. All-in-all, I think this is a decent starter boat… it could be sailed on the mainsail straightaway and fully operational with some tweaking to the foresail. There will be some major cleaning to do but I’ll get cracking with this when I get up there. There will be a few jobs to do, but nothing to stop the new owner using her straightaway. I’m looking for a quick, no-hassle sale, so someone could very well get a bargain. I will update the listing and the photos as soon as I can get up there. Viewings – as I’m a 3 hour drive away, I won’t be able to just nip up every evening… if there’s interest, then I’ll get up there for a couple nights when the weather has calmed down a bit to meet people. I will only accept offers once interested parties have viewed the boat.No reserve! Please message to ask any questions and/or to arrange a viewing. Cash or instant bank transfer preferred due to Paypal fees. Thanks for looking!
