“Binimel” has been a fantastic first boat for us since we bought her in spring 2022. We cruised her comfortably throughout the West Country, from Bristol round to her current berth in Brighton, and have taken her across the channel to the Channel Islands. She’s a manageable size, has a shallow draft, and the bilge keels mean you can moor anywhere (particularly beneficial in the solent and West Country where deep water moorings can be limited!).
Westerly are known for their solid build, and Centaur’s are seen all over the UK, still going strong after 50 years.
Accommodation inside is original and fairly basic, as are electricals and instruments, as you would expect for this price. But she has everything you need to safely and enjoyably get out and explore the British coastline.
Full specifications:
Roller reefing headsail with in-mast furling mainsail (both still fairly stiff and have plenty of wear, but unsure of exact age)
Volvo Penta MD11C inboard marine diesel. 3-bladed bronze propeller.
2no. Batteries charged by engine alternator.
90w Victron solar panel with Victron MPPT charge controller also charges the second “leisure” battery so plenty of power to charge devices while at anchor or under sail without having to run the engine.
Kept ashore winter 2022 – stripped back to gel coat and give fresh coats of underwater primer and anti-foul (latter completed May 2023).
New anode May 2023.
Last engine service August 2023.
Equipped with VHF, nav lights, depth gauge (needs new transponder), compass, gimballed stove.
Gorgeous new tiller made and installed May 2023.
Danforth anchor with 8mm chain.
Sprayhood.
Full cruising inventory including lines & warps, fenders, spinnaker, spare fisherman’s anchor. Stern-mounted ladder.
Manual bilge pump.

We have loved owning this boat, but our circumstances have changed and we no longer have the time to make sufficient use of her, or to invest in the amount of maintenance that any boat needs, so it’s time to pass her on to someone else who can enjoy sailing her.
