Gamecock is a 1979 Westerly GK29 which was originally built for, and sold to one of the directors of Westerly yachts. Since then she has only been owned by one other person before I bought her in 2002. She is a very well known boat in the Argolic and Saronics, and she has really looked after us with all our adventures in Greece – and there have been many!
For a boat of this size, she has a lot of room down below and can very comfortably sleep 5. She is UK registered under the Small Ships Register, port of Southampton.
Since 2002 we have carried out a number of upgrades to her including a Volvo 2002 engine in 2004, roller furling, Andersen ST40 self tailing winches, a Maxwell Freedom windlass with 50 metres of chain and 30m of warp, Autohelm instruments (depth, speed, wind and VMG), new Jabsco Twist & Lock sea toilet, modern Gebo fore hatch, Gebo opening port lights into the cockpit, recent new laminated tiller and a superb Harken mainsheet system. The yacht is rigged for short handed sailing with all control lines and main halyard led back to the cockpit with rope clutches and jammers.
She has been lifted at the end of the season every year and has over-wintered in a boatyard ashore. The running costs are extremely low in comparison with the UK, and she has provided a huge amount of enjoyment and fun in this amazing cruising area for little outlay.
Everyone who sails her, loves her!
Her inventory includes:-

She is owned by a small syndicate of 4 people. Through this partnership and friendship we have unexpectedly found a new mistress, one who is demanding our attention, so with some reluctance and sadness we are offering for sale this plucky fun little ship in what we think is the best cruising area in the world – even after 16 years we are discovering new bays and harbours within a few hours sailing.
Gamecock is offered in a sailaway condition (in fact, she has very recently returned from a two week trip and is now ashore at a convenient location 45 minutes from Athens Airport by train making long weekends and short breaks easy).
Current costs are as follows in a boatyard with hardstanding, proper steel cradles and travel-lift launch/recovery. The yard has vacancies and, subject to their acceptance, this arrangement could easily be continued.
Storage ashore – 100 Euros per monthLift in or Lift out – 120 EurosOnce out sailing there are no yard changes, so the more you sail her, the less you’ll save!Month-to-month contract, so if you wish to move elsewhere there would be a minimal tie-in.Transaction will be via a Maritime and Coastguard Agency Bill-of-Sale document (MSF 4705) to which all parties of our syndicate will be in agreement with transferring the whole ownership. We are motivated to sell, happy to answer any questions and give advice on the best and most cost effective places to keep her. If you’re considering forming a syndicate to buy her we’d encourage you to do so and can give great advice on how to make yours work as well as ours! We have an interest in helping, we’re going to struggle to part with her and would love to know she’s in good hands and a good place!
