26 Ft Westerly Griffon 1981.
For sale is a lovely and sought after Westerly Griffon,
Full disclosure from the beginning she is for sale at this
amazing price because she broke her mooring and sustained minor exterior
damage, the owner sadly did not have the time or the will to do any more with
the vessel so she is now looking for her new owner.
This damage is limited in the main to two stanchion bases
which require replacement and a small bit of GRP/ Gel coat work to the trailing
edge of the rudder well above the waterline. Other damage is merely cosmetic and most of which will clean
up with some elbow grease.
Starting in the cockpit there are two halyard winch’s
(Lewmar single speed 10’s) on the coach roof either side of the instrument
cluster, above the companion way hatch, which consists of a Garmin GPS and
clipper wind speed and depth instruments all working, except the wind which
shows direction but no speed.
Either side we have two primary winch’s (Lewmar 2 speed 30’s)
and two secondary winch’s (Lewmar two speed 16’s) and to starboard a deep large
locker for storage.
There are two spray dodgers, a spray hood for which the
frame needs some new fittings and what appears to be the frame work for the
cockpit tent, however no cover for this could be found.
The sails are in good condition and consist of a roller
furling genoa and an in mast furling main, making this the ideal boat for
either shorthanded sailing or easy cruising.
Going down below, the boat is in good condition with a large
removable table in the centre allowing the saloon to be opened up and seating
either side. To port, the seat pulls out to make a good sized double bed with
the starboard seat wide enough for a single. To the rear on the port side is a
sliding chart table which can be slid back under the cockpit to create another
generous single berth, whilst on the starboard side we have the galley
featuring a rather classical but believed to be working Gimballed gas oven with
two hobs and a grill. There is also a cool box and a sink with fresh water
provided by a foot pump and lots of cupboards for the storing of provisions.
Going forward, there is a good sized heads compartment which
could do with some TLC and in front of that we have the nicely sized V berth.
Everything you see comes with the boat including lots of
spare parts and service parts for the engine.
The engine is a BUKH 20 famous for being the engine of
choice for the older lifeboats, due to their reliability and ability to run
inverted. This drives a 2 blade fixed propeller via a shaft.
The engine runs well and the boat was motored a long way
from her old mooring area to our base without an issue.
Being a bilge keel boat she can take the ground for easy
maintenance, cheap mooring and access to places fin keelers can only dream
about. Westerly griffons have a very good reputation especially for internal
volume and surprisingly good sailing characteristics and are Westerly’s new and
much improved answer to the popular centaur.
Westerly has a strong following of owners meaning parts and
advice are easy to obtain and there is even a massive meet planned in Bembridge
this year for Westerly owners, just a short sail away from the boats current
The vessel must be removed from her current mooring within
14 days of sale however we may be able to find you or provide you with a
mooring in the area for an extra fee.
