1958 Albatross Continental for sale. This is the tapered stern Mk1 version built by Albatross Marine Limited, of St Olaves, Great Yarmouth. They were built from 1957 thru 1961, numbers 1001 to 1244, this one is 1084. These boats are a stepless planing hull, manufactured using riveted aluminium alloy, with the marinised inboard engine driving the propeller via a (direct) shaft drive. 1084 goes by the name of Vital Spark. Vital Spark was originally an Ullswater ski boat, then was restored by a CMBA (Classic Motor Boat Association) member and used by him and his family for almost 20 years. This Albatross is well known within the CMBA and it’s late owner very well respected and much missed. I act on behalf of his family, for the purposes of this sale and am also a CMBA member. Vital Spark has been cared for and marginally modified over the years. It is a usable, genuine boat, rather than a trailer queen. It is not in the original factory colours and the boat has little dents and dings from being used, as it should be, for boat rallies and outings. It’s patina and colour is part of it’s charm.Like most of these boats, it’s a delight to drive, with precise handling on the water; a responsive, lovely sounding motor and steering wheel that can be twirled with one finger. For the water skiers out there, it has a lovely flat wake when running. The 2 seater Albatross may have suited Bardot, Rainier, Onassis and the Duke of Edinburgh, but this is a 4 seater, has more space and is a usable family boat. The 100E motor is easier and cheaper to maintain than the Climax engined Continental versions and obviously better for parts supply. This one is spot-on mechanically and has always been reliable.Specs:Seats: 4Length: 15ft 3inBeam: 4ft 11inEngine: Ford 100E based inboard, marinised (closed water cooling), with water-cooled exhaust, single SU carb.
