Aprox 1992 BAYLINER COBRA Bowrider
18ft Ski boat with 125hp Force engine and trailer.
This is a 95% completed project, which COVID has taken the
shine off.
Boat was bought 5 years ago to have some fun with, but it
soon became apparent that there was a LOT of work needed to be done to get it
back to decent standard.
Basically, the short version is that I have spent 2 years
and about 1500 quid on returning this to a good useable condition.
So far the repair / rebuild list runs to:
85% Rebuilt interior – floor, seat boxes, buoyancy areas,
seating units etc – All rebuilt from timber and fully fibreglassed. Original
carpet and furnishings reused where possible to retain the retro look (which I liked).
New fuel system, pipework and fuel tank.
Replaced critical electrics and battery.
Steering system replaced (by previous owner just prior to
sale).
Throttle system overhauled and refitted.
Trailer has had a fill new axle, leaf springs, brakes, brake cables, hull rollers, timber bunks
and winch – all fully replaced.
Hitch fully overhauled and brakes now working.
Basically, all of the main work has been completed.
There are a few small jobs still to do:
Some tidying to the electrics
2 seat cushions to finish making (I have the foam, but you
will need a bit of ply and some covering)
Bilge pump needs buying and fitting (cheap and easy to do)
Bit of paint etc to do on the trailer.
In summary – this is a 30+ year old boat. The upholstery
isn’t bad for its age but there are a number of cracks in the fabric here and
there. Nothing that detracts from the usability, but its not mint obviously.

Some of the electrics dont work (stereo, nav lights) but
these arnt really needed, and could be fixed.
The engine has been checked and tested, and is a good
runner. It got a new impeller by previous owners, and I have only run it in a
tank 4 or 5 times since then to keep it alive. I have never had it in the
water, so I cant 100% guarantee that its all working perfectly, but I don’t see
any reason it wont. I have videos of me running it on the path, and from the
previous owners using it in the water. So it was fine just before the sale.
The trim / tilt system works fine, but it does bleed down over time,
so you need to chock the leg in the up position before towing the boat, to
prevent any leg damage.
Hull is fine – couple of small dings here and there but
nothing to cause any problems.
Trailer is good to go – you could get over a grand for the
trailer on its own…..
