It’s finally time to say goodbye to my beloved Elan GT speedboat. A stunning and timeless classic not usually found in UK waters.Elan, obviously have considerable pedigree throughout the world, now mostly focusing on manufacturing sailing and superyachts from their base in Slovenia. However, back in the 80’s they churned out these brilliant little speedboats in the former Yugoslavia and there are still plenty of these bumping around the seas on the Dalmatian coast, where this one started it’s life. Just google the model (Elan GT 435s) and you’ll find they’re mostly for sale in Croatia / Slovenia etc.At one time it belonged to my father in law (wife is Croatian) but we brought it back to the UK many moons ago. We took it because he rarely used it and was happy to see it go. Once in the UK, it’s probably been used even less than he did. We probably used it about 4 times a year usually in May and June, then would depart for Croatia for our usual 6 week summer break (without the boat). We’ve had some amazing fun on this with our children but they’re no longer interested in hanging with mum and dad any more! We’re now at the point where it makes more sense to simply buy and keep a boat in Croatia as taking this back into the EU is beyond impossible. So, with a very heavy heart, I’ve decided to sell her.On the back is the maxiumum engine this boat can carry – 55HP Mariner which absolutely shifts when opened up. If you didn’t know, these engines were a revelation when they arrived in the mid-80’s. Unlike today’s engines these things were built to be absolutely bullet proof and with so little use on this one, this runs immaculately, albeit with that reassuring 2-stroke rattle (I love it). Engines this powerful and reliable are very hard to come by these days, particularly one in this condition with very little use. The only slight negative on the engine is the cowl which suffered sun damage in Croatia. I had intended but have never got round to fully sanding, respraying and adding new decals. Easily done if you’re worried about the cosmetics.Everything on the boat works as expected – choke, kill switch, steering, fuel lines etc.Engine has been regularly serviced and winterised so it’s literally ready to go and is a unique and cheap entry onto the waters. It truly is a headturner once it gets going and you’re guaranteed loads of fun on this.In the last month I’ve added brand new trailer tyres and a new battery, as well as changing the gear oil. She pumps water perfectly so impeller is in good condition inside.
